Franklin,
in Auckland's own backyard is a cave
complex
with mighty
Stalagmites and Stalactites,
and
thousands of
glow worms imitating
the stars.
All set.
in a working farm
"Whare
Matero"
at Waikaretu,
forty
five minutes
from
Pukekohe,
and an hour and a half from Auckland.
The cave is part of an
underground
stream complex,
carved
out by centuries of running and dripping water.
The full excursion through
the kilometer of cave takes approximately an hour and a half
but an alternative
visit to the large dome is available.
Torches, helmets, clothing and footwear are available or visitors can bring
their own.
Meals are available by arrangement.
